New Colorado member, saying Hello!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

My name is John and I'm a new member that was pointed in this direction by a very nice guy with a lot of Subaru's in his driveway. I've been a Subaru guy since 98' when I bought my Outback which has been the best car I ever owned!

Long story here but... I have friend who lives in Golden that I visit every few weeks, and for the last several years his neighbor has always had all these cool interesting Subaru's sitting in his driveway. Well this morning I went to go start my car and it wouldn't start. This really nice guy comes out of his house with coffee in hand and says need some help? Since I know nothing about mechanics I happily replied yes. He introduced himself and popped my hood open to see what's going on. I told him I had a check engine light on for awhile and he walked over to his much newer Outback and pulled out a code scanning tool! I was shocked to say the least. He hooked it up a pulled out a cam sensor code. Then stated I needed a new cam sensor, and asked if I wanted a ride to the Subaru dealership to get one. Of course I take him up on his offer and we take his much nicer Outback to the dealership. When we get to the parts office everyone there knows him and calls him by name.

Even gave me his discount as his brother runs a shop. Basically got the sensor at cost! So as I'm sitting here using his computer to write this and check out this community he is out there putting in my new cam sensor and a new air filter for me too. I always knew the Subaru community was good group of people but this was just shocking. A VERY VERY big thank you to Keith with the old lifted sedan which I get to drive here in a few minutes and several other Subaru's in his driveway. I know I will be on here a lot now that I know all Subaru genius's are on here.

So? What else is new?

Just kidding. People who are into Subarus are very much like that and you'll find a lot of them here on the USMB. Most sharing, bend-over-backwards-to-help bunch of folks I've ever met.

Welcome aboard John Briggs--and happy motoring!

Yep he had a run in with me ....

No problem John, was nice to meet you and was all of 15 minutes worth of work. Like I said I think that air filter with a 1/2" of crap on it was the real culprit, but you were running around in limp mode because of the sensor anyways. Should be running much better now, report back here or call me.

I will repeat this again here just to emphasize how important it is...

You must get the timing belt/tensioner/idlers replaced ASAP, it's well past due at the 139k that are on your car. Again just let me know and I can do it with you in couple hours time. Though I highly suggest just doing the water pump/oil pump seal/cam & crank seals at the same time. Might be able to get away without the seals for now since your car didn't appear to be leaking anywhere.

Otherwise welcome to THE best Subaru community out there, and I'll see ya around.

+1. And +1 again.
