hardtail_pride
So i will be up front about my mechanical abilities, they are decent for a 21 yr old but i have a long way to go. So i finished the Motor swap yesterday on the EA82 and it started idling around the 3000 rpm range non stop today. Yesterday it would seem to get stuck after i accelerated above 3000 and not drop, but if i kept it below that it was fine. And it would reset when i turned off and played with the throttle body. Anyways Here are a list of things out of the ordinary that may be affecting the idling i believe. -Its only running the cats and a pipe to just where the muffler was when i switched exhausts decided i needed a new muffler so that is going to happen this week. Not enough back pressure so its messing up the computer? -Check engine light is on which it was before, but never had idling issue. -Oil warning light is flickering? This car doesn't have the gauge so maybe signals aren't right with this conversion? And that's about if for now. Things that i have done to troubleshoot: 1) Loosened the throttle cable but no change, lubed it also. 2)I was going to back off the idling screw, but its pretty stiff, and wouldn't have moved on its own so ruled that out as it was idling perfect before at 700 rpms. So what else is affecting my idling that i should check? Maybe i connected a vacuum line wrong? Thanks for any input. john in KY
Engine needs lots of air to idle at 3000. If the throttle plate is still in the closed position with the high idle, air has to be coming from somewhere else.
Gloyale
IAC valve stuck open, or incorrectly connected to the intake. Otherwise a BIG vacuum leak around the throttle body.
hardtail_pride
Oh jeez im an idiot. I put rags down the intake when i took the motor to the car wash so it wouldn't get water in the intake. I pulled out one when i was finishing putting the motor back in but i guess i missed a rag. Big palm to the face moment. :-\
