rverdoold
It is already going on for some time over here. However you don't see many on the road but that could be because Subies are not that popular over here. Check youtubie and make a search you will also find lots of tests and some animations. bgambino
Interesting anyone know how long these have been on the market in other places besides the US? The website brags about MPG's but states nothing specific...stupid! Anyone have some numbers on this? Do we have any members on our board that own one or who know someone that does? Would love to hear something about power...fuel economy and quietness...

Petersubaru
looking at those numbers..it seems that the Tdiesel is faster from the start and top end then the 2010 2.5 CVT OB
indytruckboy
was told by a Subaru rep that the diesel was scrapped for the USDM due to the price of fuel having gone down.
dakos
yeah..sure ..i'd like to see any of the new subarus turbo models doing same mileage as the the TD engine models )) don't know about US but here in Canada diesel is still cheaper than gas... in my opinion the car industry is still controlled by the big petroleum company owners...

Petersubaru
so, generally speaking, what does gas and diesel cost in toronto and what is the exchange rate? ie: does it cost more or less than in the us? ..I live about 1 mile from the border and I tank-up in the States with Canadian gas when I do my shopping..generally the cost of fuel is about $0.70-0.90 less per gal in the US..taxes are higher in Can. for fuel...there is some truth about killing the diesel for the US market because the price of fuel is to cheap..it is hard to justify the added extra cost of a diesel motor with low fuel prices..if you are a long distance driver like I was several yrs ago, the diesel fuel savings can add up very quickly, but for most of us reg driving would take a long time to get a return on investment..I like the diesel and I am driving one right now, but would perfer to have cheap fuel prices with cleaner burning, more efficent cars as opposed to having a new diesel with fuel prices of about $7-$10 dollars a gal. like in Europe etc ..with that being said,..I would like to see the diesel in NAm. in smaller hp versions..honda's civic 2.2 or toyota, VW, or the various version of the Audi 3 &4 starting with 1.3L..75mpg and still has far more get up and go then my old vw diesel turbo..85-90mph getting 50mpg would suit me just fine Edited October 5, 2009 by Petersubaru

(or just keep an old subaru hanging around, they don't cost a too much if you don't drive them.) my nephew lives in NY city without a car. if he needs to drive somewhere for the weekend, he rents. of course what he used to spend on a car, now goes to rent. dakos
well.... in Eu you can get all cars models available on diesel or gas , depends on your purposes you can buy same car with a diesel engine or gas , no further i was reading a week ago that Jaguar is offering too a TD engine regarding pollution... as far as i know the cleanest engine still is a mercedes td engine... competitions and endurance...Audi is winning the 24h at Le Mans for a few good years usind TDi engines... i do understand as much as i can the 60's muscle cars but...we are almost 50 years later and technology has really gone beyond the point where you need a 5L V8 engine to generate 500HP ... the 2L STi engine from Subaru is just a small example...
