dunnahog69
Hi, i have been reading about swapping my blown ej25 engine for an ej22 which sound just the job!!! I have been calling around some wreckers here in new zealand and the 2.2 engines all seem to be single cams....This seems to be a far stretch for an easy engine change.... Or is there a rare twin cam 2.2 i cannot find Thanks in advance for any help as i need the missus car back on te road and the ej 25 engine is rare as....well running ones anyway
lmdew
No, they are all single cams. I've done 8 or so of these swaps and they are easy. - Ensure the EGR Valve configuration matches your engine, if you have one, you need to have one on the 2.2 engine - If you have a dual port exhaust, but you get a single port exhaust engine, get the y-pipe - If you want the Power steering lines to bolt up factory stock, along the intake manifold, get the power steering lines as well Plug and play! dunnahog69
Hey man thanks for that, unfortunatly i couldn,t wait and went out a got an engine earlier....been down in the garage (beer in hand ) trying to sus things out! Not sure but i think i may have stuffed up if its ment to just plug in as the wiring looms are different.... the 2 squarish ones look to fit but sure they will be too short and there is no loom wiring with round connector carrying on through to connect upto car on the other side if that makes sense I wa thinkong that the engine may be the wrong year or something.... didnt check when i got it but think its 93 now i looked and my legacy is a 97. It did come from an auto which i have though..... Can i salvage this easily or have i wasted god money.... lmdew
You need to get a 95 2.2 intake manifold with EGR. It will bolt right up to the 93 block and the harness on the 95 Intake will plug into your 97.

hankosolder2
He's in New Zealand, so things might be a bit different. Does the 2.5 have an EGR valve or not? The '93 is an earlier generation car, so it will not be plug and play. The blocks and head are the same (with one exception) so if you swap a later '95 manifold/wiring harness on it should work, assuming NZ cars are similar to US spec ones. The '93 engine will not have a tapping in the head for the EGR valve pipe...so if your old 2.5 engine has an EGR valve that's something you may have to deal with. If having a check engine light on is not a problem you should be OK. (Do you have emissions inspections in NZ?) Nathan
subaru360
I think most NZ cars are JDM spec. So it probably does not have EGR on the 2.5. If that's the case, you may get away with swapping all the sensors and wiring from your old 2.5 onto the new 2.2.

dunnahog69
I hear that... now we're coming into summer eh!!! Thanks guys for the help so far, Not that i know too much at what i am looking for but i'm pretty sure there is no EGR valve even though its an auto. I reckon changing the loom may be possible for me if only a bit of a problem... some dodgy water pipe routing and extending the 3 pin connector to (wait for it ) the manifold water solinoid thing ??? Dont know about the throttle position sensor though :-\ Can i swap the 25 tps onto the 22 thottle body? has any one changed all of the sensors before as they look the same but may not give the same readings, i am particularly concerned about the cam and crank sensors being the same.... would be good if i could leave the original knock sensor in the 22 also. Think my 1st plan is to try and hand back the motor to the wreckers and try and get a 95 instead but i'm sure they'll not want that just because i got the wrong one. Plan B is find a 95 manifold and failing that try the loom and sensor change. I will be having beers watching bathhurst v8's this weekend so not gona get much done for a few days but i'll let ya know how its going.... Thanks again guys....have a good weekend eh. Nice to no i'll be at the weekend nearly a day before you
dunnahog69
thanks for the advice guys....as soon as i make some headway with this issue i will post the results. Could be a while as the ole fish boat needs attention and the summer is as good as here. Ps it seems as though you guys in the us have more sube choice as the 2.2 never made it to new zealand after 94 ish so thats why it has to be a hard swap with the old wiring or pay huge bucks for a ej25 that will last as long as my breakfast
