So I'm leaking fluids....

Recommended Posts

I finally had some time to get underneath the hood of my car since I bought it last week.

The car recently started to blow smoke out the hood somewhere so I decided to investigate :)

It smelled like burnt coolant and oil. No white smoke was coming out the exhaust thank God...And as I revved the motor, the smoke would stop, then resume once I let it idle.

I spotted a little puddle of coolant around the intake mani, so I replaced some cooling hoses by the intake manifold. Thought that it would fix the problem. Then I saw another puddle after I let it run for a little bit. Took a closer look and noticed that the gaskets around the manifold looked worn.

So I continued to remove the intake manifold and in doing so took off the EGR valve which was clogged up with black carbon.

As for the oil leaks,

I tightened up the valve covers since those were dripping oil as well, (I was able to loosen these bolts with my fingers.) As well as the oil pan bolts. hopefully this will help me pinpoint my problem.

Anything else I should take a look at/ replace while i've got things torn apart?

you might just do the valve cover thats leaking any way, mine had a similar problem with the bolts but its still leaking from the one side that was loose after i have tightened everything up. infact its getting worse and it makes my car look like its on fire when i am sitting at a light.
