Crawlerdan Posted November 1, 2009 Share Posted November 1, 2009 i have a 2000 legacy outback wagon- with 4.11 5spd trans. it took a superpoop i need to know what other transmissions i can put in, obviously must me another 411 5spd- but for example, a 99 forester 411 5spd- direct swap? im aware that they have different 1st05th gear ratios,i could care less- as long as it bolts in, throws no codes, and i dont need to modify axles or drivelines. please help asap- my car is down and i have small subie enthusiests that need to go to school Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Just watch the rear diff ratio and whether it's a cable or hydraulic clutch (although even that can sometimes be converted). Check out the USRM for transmissions that would suit you. A Forester transmission would probably work just fine for you. Lastly, try to match up engine types (e.g. I wouldn't install a EJ18 transmission in your Outback even if it might fit). I currently have a former WRX ('95 JDM version) transmission in my Impreza. Needed to convert a hydraulic to a cable type. What do people think about swapping an Aussie Forester (say 98-00?) 5MT into a USDM 95 Legacy? What issues concerns might i need to think about and look into more deeply? As I understand the AU FOR is 4.11, so i'll need a 4.11 rear diff, but otherwise will there be other concerns if FOR is 2.5 and my Leg is 2.2? If there are different bolting (bell housing) paterns, say FOR is 6 bolt but my Leg is 4 bot, would they still mesh where they overlap?? Thoughts continue, but looking for more heads' worth of Suby experience, and ideas I wouldn't think to concern myself with.
