Numbchux
welcome to the USMB. if you have a look through this very same section, you'll notice a thread entitled "EJ-EA Power Steering". you'll find the answers you seek there. seriously. it was discussed in depth like 3 days ago. it's barely halfway down the page: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=104879
bratsrus1
Hi This is Jerry, no my 80 hatchbrat has a 2.2 in it and i don't have power steering in it dose just fine. If you look at this years show pictures that Austin took you will see my hatchbrat. Look at the engine and you will see how i set up my oil sending unit without the power steering. I also cut off about half of the bracket to have more room. Thanks Jerry
Uberoo
so then its not a bear to turn without ps?Great than..
coldfusion21
I'm sure at high speeds you won't notice. However, i bet at low speeds and in torque steer situations you will notice it to be a good deal stiffer with alot more feedback.
bratsrus1
Hi This is Jerry, even at low speeds it's not hard to turn your car. I don't notice any difference from the Ea81 engine. So i would say go for it. Thanks Jerry
The Scooby
you will be fine without it, i daily drive and wheel my wagon with the 27X9.50 SSR's and i don't have any problems what so ever.
ninjaben43
dont need it, but on the other hand, i put in a 81 ps rack and ran lines from my ej pump an it was way worth it. too bad i never really got to enjoy it, i was rearended 268 miles after completion... actually the day i got the ps working. Phizinza
The EJ is barely 20kg heavier... It makes no difference. When with modded suspensions geometry, an EJ, AWD, 27" MT's, and a 300mm steering wheel my Brat was fine in carparks, at speed, offroad etc. Only time I would have trouble was climbing rocky slopes that these Subaru's really were not meant to do anyhow... Numbchux
yea, changing the engine isn't going to change anything. if your rack is geared not to have it, you'll be fine. now....the quicker-ratio power steering racks, with no power assist.....that sucks. LPGsuperchargedBrumby
i have a brumby ute with an EJ22 an no power steering.....i find the steering is fine....the only time i wish i had power steering is when turning the wheel while the vehicle isn't moving
RAugur33
You will find that EJ22 swap owners tend to be stronger than average men and PS is not necessary. Once you do the swap you will notice that you will be stronger, better looking and taller.
