J A Blazer
I have three cars, a 2000 4cyl OBW with 125K; a 2004 Mini Cooper with 90K; and a 1999 Lexus RX300 with 175K. I usually put 5W-30 Mobil-1 in each. I went to WalMart today to buy some of those 5 qt jugs, but all they had in the 5W-30 was the 'extended performance' which is supposed to be good for 15K change intervals. I would have preferred the regular, or the high-mileage (75K+) but no such luck. I bought one jug, not the 2 or 3 that I planned. Any reason not to put this in any (or all) of my cars? Fairtax4me
That should be fine as long as the oil you normally use is also full synthetic oil.
idosubaru
yeah it'll be fine. one oil change is not going to kill your car, if it did then everyone that ever switches oil change places (who have their own preferences and rarely match previous brands/weights/etc) would have engine issues. in general the "high mileage" and marketed stuff like that is avoidable. you want oil. those "branded" things like high mileage, older car, special whatever - those have additional (unecessary) additives. pure, clean, regular oil is fine for any car, particularly ones that are running perfectly fine. edrach
So how often are you changing your oil?
zyewdall
I generally don't run less than 40 weight (5W40, 5W50, etc) in my subarus, but most of them are close to, or over 200k miles, and that keeps down the oil burning it seems. I run full synthetic in them all, and I haven't had problems switching them to synthetic.
frag
1996 Leg Brighton wagon. For the last three years or so i've been using Mobil One full synth extended (oil change) interval oil. One in the spring (10-30) and one in the fall (5-30). That's all. Of course, i replace the filter at the same time. I've got 364,000 kilometers on the meter and practicaly no loss of oil (leaks or burning) between changes. I had been using regular Mobil one synth before that. J A Blazer
My question is really based on my ignorance on what practical difference, if any, there is between the various Mobil-1 synthetic oils, all the same weight (i.e. 5W-30), being regular synthetic, high mileage (75K+), and extended performance (oil changes at 15K)? Any problems associated with switching back and forth between the various versions? Edited November 6, 2009 by J A Blazer typo
frag
I think you'll get only opinions on this. Here's mine. I think they all have the same lubrication properties. The high mileage one is a heavier grade (10-30 at minimum) I think there are no «high mileage» 5-30 Mobil One oil. The longer change interval oil has additives that retard the apparition of contaminants of all sorts. I dont think switching between the three can have negative consequences. subaru360
The mobile 1 is just about the worst thing you can do to a subaru engine. You couldn't pay me to put it in. Almost every case of spun bearings I've seen in a subaru was using mobile 1.

Fairtax4me
I highly doubt that those were caused by the type of oil in the crank case at the time of failure. Mobil is the highest rated and most widely used brand of synthetic oil on the market. Mercedes Benz, BMW, even Chevrolet all recommend using Mobil products. (they actually have stickers under the hood that say that)
