Tough 13" Tires?

Recommended Posts

Hello!

Just curious if anyone knows some make/model tires to keep my eye out for. I'm looking to just replace the tires on my stock rims (175/70/R13 - 1990 Loyale) but want to get the toughest tread I can find. I drive alot on paved roads as well, but the reason I want them is for logging roads with potholes, sharp rocks, etc. What sizes can I look for and which models?

Thanks!!

`TJ.

No one really makes a "tough" 13" tire unless maybe in the ATV world. 13" is way out of date and the most you will find is maybe an agressive snow tire. Even then, they won't be more than a 2 ply sidewall though. If you want serious tires you are going to have to move into ATV tires (not street legal) or go with like a 15" rim and get some Interco's (some lift generally advisable).

I just got these... I don't know what you mean by "tough", but some of the other users on this board said they were decent. I think they made my car look alot better and they have aggressive tread for logging roads and stuff. Driving home with them on the freeway for 30 miles, it rode smoother than my old tires did, but they make a little bit more noise due to the more aggressive tread. My 2 cents.

Yea! Those last ones wouldn't be to bad. I'll try looking for some of them. Sounds like they were a little tough to find? I know I'm not going to get anything truly off-road but I just don't want some summer tire. Those appear to have fairly thick and deep treads.

I was just thinkin.. do you plan to drive with them in summer too? Will they wear out real quick? So frustrating to figure out. I do lots of logging road driving in both summer and winter...but of course you're on pavement all the rest of the time. What the hell is the right compromise?

The comprimise: Two vehicles. One for fun, and one for a DD. The money you save in fuel and tires will pay for the extra vehicle. Plus you have a "nice" car for when you want to take the woman to dinner vs. a muddy wreck of a vehicle that makes you look like a hillbilly.

I plan on rock'in 'em all year round  So far I like them. I haven't driven a bunch on them, but I like the look. They are les schwab signet winter trax.

That would ultimately be the best choice, and oh so true, especially with these cars :)

If you can wait, you will find the size tire that you want. It took me a couple of weeks, but I am sure that you will be able to find something. I am glad that I waited and looked for the 185/80/13's, they look much better on the car.
