3Pin
Can I take a 2.2 automatic from 91-94 legacy and drop it in a 96 outback automatic? I had planned on removing the original 2.2 intake manifold and replace with a 2.2 intake manifold with an EGR to the 91-94 2.2. Any problems that anyone can foresee with this? lmdew
I think the speedo sensors are different. The 90-94 has a cable, the 96 has an electronic speed sensor. I've put the electronic speed sensor on to the older trans and it works, but I don't know if it would work the other way. Gear Ratios may be different as well so match the rear diff. 3Pin
Let me clarify...I want to take the 2.2 engine from a 91-94 legacy and install it into a 96 outback that has a bad 2.5 with an automatic trans. I heard I should just be able to switch the intake from a 95 2.2 with an egr onto the 2.2 engine from a 91-94 legacy. Any sensors or anthing else I need to mess with? Fairtax4me
I don't think you eve have to do that. This has been discussed many times here. The search function is your friend.
3Pin
I appreciate the response fairtax4me. I did search and couldn't find what I was looking for. The EGR was the main concern. I didn't think the 90-94's had one and it seems that if I install a 95 2.2 intake with an EGR on the 90-92 without an EGR, it should plug and play into the 96 outback automatic with a bad 2.5. Can anyone confirm? The car is sitting right now waiting for an engine.
idosubaru
on the 90-92 without an EGR,if the engine itself doesn't have EGR you're going to have issues. The EGR is not just an intake manifold related item - it is plumbed into the long block (the head), so the engine needs to have EGR if you want a simple plug and play swap. You can work around it a few different ways, none of which are simple (define simple?!?!!).
