SATANS_CABANA_BOY
I have a '95 Subaru Legacy Wagon with 215,000 miles. A problem has creped up. It pops out of 4th gear all the time and it is getting quite annoying. Does anyone know any likely solutions for this besides getting a new transmission? Any help please. Tiny Clark
A bungee cord for cruising in 4th is about it. Usually, this is a tell-tale sign that means you need a new tranny.
Hondasucks
On the bottom of yhe tranny you will see three bolts in a row, I think they are a 10mm head. Take each one out one by one and check the condition of the ball and spring. Might need to stretch and/or replace the spring, or replace theball if it is worn. The balls ride in grooves in teh shift rails and are what holds it in gear, when they wear out or get loose, then it wont' stay in gear. Usually the balls wear, and replacement will fix it, btu sometimes the detent in the shift rail gets worn and in that case, you have to replace the shift rail. Yous hould be able to get teh balls and springs from the dealer for relatively cheap.
Tiny Clark
The bungee cord is cheaper! Hope you get it fixed, as it's always best to have your balls ride in the groove!!
