vica153
Ok I really need one of these sockets to remove the axle stubs from my diff. Sears has one, but its only available online and takes 2 weeks to arrive. $6 shipping on a $6 socket. Fastenal said they could get me one, strung me along for a week and a half, and then said they couldn't get it. Does anyone know where I can get a Torx E10 1/4" drive socket, preferably in the Minneapolis area? Or does anyone in the Minneapolis area have one I could borrow this weekend? Thanks.
GeneralDisorder
Find a Snap-On or Matco truck. Either could probably have it in a day if they don't have one on the truck. I don't know about Mac but probably.... I bought mine from Matco as they are impact rated and an impact is OFTEN needed to get them loose. You MUST get a 1/4" drive as no 3/8" drive socket will fit. The Snap-On one's I've seen aren't impact socket's but I doubt that matters much. Other's on here have reported that a 6 point of some normal size will usually work to get them off as well. I haven't tried. I bought two of the E10's so I have one for my primary tool box and another in my junk-yard bag. GD
The Beast I Drive
I bought a regular E10 socket for 3/8" drive, then cut the drive end off it, turnd it on the lathe so it would fit in the stub, then welded it to a short 3/8" drive extension. It works perfectly, being able to use the extra leverage of the 3/8" ratchet is a big plus. I tried the 8mm 6 point socket, but for me it only worked 50% of the time, so I said screw that and made my own. -Bill
bheinen74
even with the correct 1/4 craftsman torx 10, one of my stub bolts some of the head broke off, with the shoulder and some of the head still remaining. Had to drill it out, that was non fun lots of time wasted to do so.
GeneralDisorder
That's why an impact is beneficial. The shock treatment will often break them loose without twisting the head off. GD
Numbchux
I'll be down for the holiday. I could bring mine with me Wednesday. or mail it to you monday (you'd get it tuesday) and pick it up on wednesday.
vica153
At this point I think may just put off the rear diff project until I'm back up at school and can take my time putting it together shimmed correctly. Even with that off the list I have plenty of things to do before Thursday.
