Hooray for open timing covers, but...

Recommended Posts

Stopped in at a friends house tonight, and when I went to leave the driver side timing belt came off. Didn't break, just was so loose that it was doing nothing. So I put it back on, and all seems good. But, what has me scratching my head is what could have even caused this? The tentioner seems fine, and everything looked ok yesterday when I was poking around. I had just filled her up with gas, so maybe it was just messin with me.

Well, checked everything out, everything seems good. I guess the belt stretched just enough to come off. I had a tire go down on my earlier in the week also, for some unknown reason, nothing in it, no leaks at all. I had also just topped off the tank then also. Maybe I should just fill the tank to 3/4's from now on.

They do stretch and the EA82's don't have hydraulic tensioners.....

this.

I don't leave tbelt covers off or carry spare belts on my EJs, or my ER27. but I did on every EA82 I owned. because they fail, and you'll be changing them on the side of the road. and I 100% blame the tensioners.
