T case worth it?

So after having a few beers with a buddy of mine I realized that I have a parts subaru, and that another friend has an over abundance of nissan 4x4's sitting in a field. So Putting 2+2 together and coming up with 5. I thought why not lift my subaru 10 inches, and install a T case then run 33" tires. How much steel am I going to need to do this? How much is the steel gonna cost?Is it worth it?

I know it would keep water from soaking my pants...

Also how would I make the strut extensions? Anyone have pics of the strut extensions, subframe, etc?How much did you spend on your conversion?Once again is it worth it?

as far as i know no on here has done a monster lift with a t-case for several years so you'll probably have to figure out the cost for yourself.

have you looked in the frequently asked questions about lifting, i think i remember seeing something in there about how much steel would be needed and what kind for bigger lifts.

as far as is it worth it? well i think that might be something you will also need to figure out for yourself. i know its alot of work and i think some of the original members that had big lifts has moved on to toyotas. i know turbone still runs his, rooinator was trying to sell his and i think there is atleast 1 or 2 others on here that might still have theres.

i know i've been thinking about doing this for awhile myself.

hope someone that has done one will post up some pics of under there car showing the mods.

another note on cost/be worth it: it probably be cheaper to buy rooinators then build one if its still for sale. i know if i had the money i would buy it.

I donno about cost.I more or less have all the parts needed.I probally would grab the nissan transfercase for 10 bucks or so from my friend..Then its just the steel...Then again I am not sure if I really need it.The only thing my subaru seems to lack is power with a EA81 and 235's.An Ej would be more than plently. On the other hand, having a subaru with the gearing to comfortably turn 33" tires would be pretty awesome.A buddy in a ranger on 36"s can put it in low range and still crawl up things.Where the subaru is going about 5-10 mph at idle in low...

however I am in the same boat as far as buying roonators rig..

i have a subframe already built i'll sell ya for 300.a set of diffs i'll sell ya for another 600.

and if you are tired of getting wet, stop driving through water.it's really simple.

and if you ************ing payed attention, and searched, you would find pics of the stuff i did last year as well as johns description of how much steel you would need.....in the FAQ , just like chaz said...

see, thats my problem with you,you always ask questions that could be found by searching, or are just pretty dumb"what ifs".......

the thing about what ifs....is that if you are eventually going to need the answer to the question you ask,you probably won't ask it.it is borrishly obvious that you do not pay attention to what is going on around you.grow some common sense.

sell your subaru, and go back to saabs.or buy somethihng that you can bolt things on to...

just my 2 cents.

I'm gonna give Monstaru's bandwagon a push to get it rolling even faster, and then jump on for this one.

I'm tired of seeing hypothetical threads that we all KNOW will never ammount to anything take up valuable space that could be occupied by someone actually accomplishing something.

I'm all for brainstorming/rolling ideas around, but seriously, this along with many other of your "questions" have been answered many times previously. Look it up, and learn from their extensive right-ups, or JUST DO WHAT THEY, AND EVERYONE ELSE DID. Get a tapemeasure, a notepad, and pen, go out in your driveway, and start measuring. If you can't figure out what you'll need from looking at it all, and the previous "experience" from doing whatever it is you do to your cars; you probably can't manage a lift like this anyways.

The people here capable of a lift like this could all sit around, hold your hand, and tell you step by step what you'll need. But, even IF all "The Capables" got together, welded it up, and shipped it to your door step; we'd have only gotten you to the most difficult part of the job. You will still need alot of time to troubleshoot, correct problems for your specific vehicle, and set things up correctly. Not to mention; you'd have had to install it in the first place. That's where the big problem for the question askers of the world comes in to play. Sitting on the computer asking other people "what you'll need" doesn't get anything built.

Im sorry my questions come off like that.I just like to weigh all my options before I do anything.I don't have alot of money to play with so I would rather not waste it.Like a $150 driveshaft that I just had made that I can't use because the parts rig and my rig use a different pinion flange. So back to the driveline shop to get that fixed. The reason I ask so many damned questions is I don't have the money to try something then rip it out cause I don't like it.You've all gone and convinced me go ahead and put a damn 5 speed in the rig.Thinking of putting an EJ in aswell it just takes money to buy a parts car.I got burned before with junkyard engines, I wanna hear it run before I rip it out by its roots and shove it into a different car.So right now I am thinking put an EJ in and see how I like it.If a such time I decide I want to go bigger, than I will put a transfer case in the damn thing.
