crazyman03
I know this comes up a lot.. this inst a question though I just wanted to share. So I was tearing apart my dash to find the some gremlins. When i started pulling apart the spedo cluster, i noticed.. I had some indication lights missing. Now I know there are some that are just spacers, but my Check engine light had no bulb. Stealing the one from the "charge" indication, i plugged it back in. and Wow, (not so surprised though) it was on. drove it for a bit, still on. So I called the guy who i bought it from and asked him if he noticed it not being on. He said "I didn't want that to effect the sale of the car". Wow, I would've bought the car anyway regardless of the light being on. (I bought it for 280 bucks) But I just found it funny what people will go through just to sell the car. -Justin Edited November 28, 2009 by crazyman03

The Dude Abides
Ok i just checked, i dont get the check engine upon startup but everywhere else. What do i do to get to this thing and change the bulb.
crazyman03
there are 2 screws on the inside top of the cluster, and i think 2 others just under the bevel under the lights. and use a flat-head to remove. If i remember correctly though.. I am laying down on the couch at the moment.. 'roo is out in the cold.. :-P Its pretty strait-forward on how to dismantle it just by looking at it.. no hidden screws. -Justin

Frank B
Really? Not one of those special Californian things was it? Nope, federal emissions.
crazyman03
i was kinda lucky the bulb was out. the 'roo wouldn't have passed emissions if it was on. and too.. i guess the emissions guy didnt look for it either -Justin
chefgeoff
I was told that my 1980 brat didnt even have a ce light , or a place for one even. is this right?
wagonist
I think the earliest EFI engine in a Subie was 1981, and I'll bet even the US emissions laws weren't that tough back then, so most likely you won't have a space for a CE light. I've never seen a factory MY/Brat/Brumby EFI car (Aus never got the EA81T), first we saw of EFI was a handful of 85 RX turbos imported for rallying.
