This Forum http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/ is your friend. :)

Torque converters don;t really go bad unless something inside physically breaks (metal fatigue, it does happen) and it will then grenade inside. The transmission itself is the much more common root of trouble, much more so on the SVX it seems. Lots more info on the SVX forum. Good luck with it!

thanks for all the info guys. you can hear a rattleing coming from the converter housing and it doesnt sound as bad in neutral. it will move but only if i get it up to higher rpms. also it probebly doesnt help that it has 224,000 miles on it either.

WOW that must be a record, it sure as heck aint the original transmission.

Cracked flex plate or not, the fact that it will move only at higher rpm means the tranny is fried.

A common conversion is to change the tranny and rear diff with one from a legacy.

I know that tune, it sounds like the front diff is toast :-\

Start looking for another tranny. If you want more info on what to get, go over to the SVX Forum.

I am sure it can make it if you change your fluids often, coast down hills alot etc. :)

My stock SVX trans has nearly 190k on it. It's the original trans as well.

Get a transmission that matches the gear ratio of the rear diff or a trans and diff that match(from the same car). Pedals, shifter and linkage, a few wires for the switches and speed sensor, clutch kit and flywheel. And the proper length bolts to secure the flywheel to the crankshaft. I don't know if the front axles are different from auto to manual, but you can cross reference the parts pretty quick to find out.
