Speedwagon
Anyone have the list of what all the wires on the brown plug(85 Brat) do? So far, I've got a confirmed ACC, ground, and lights/dimmer. But there's a yellow wire that I couldn't determine, and a red/green(I think) that was very low voltage(test light barely came on). Any idea what these do? rxleone
When I did it I couldn't find a permanent memory cable, so I just undid the fuse box under the dash, found a wire that was on permanently (turned out to be the door light) and wired that sucker up. Perhaps you could do the same on a accessory wire? The low voltage wire sounds suspect. Have you put an actual multimeter onto it and checked the current? Could pay to. Speedwagon
I have a multimeter, but I was doing this in the dark, in 10F weather. So I will wait to probe it with the multimeter until warmer, daylights hours. And the memory wire is basically why I am asking. If one of these wires are unused for this application, I can rewire it, and maintain a disconnectable harness for easy removal.
rxleone
I would undo my dash and show you how I wired mine, but the bloody thing is such a birds nest you'd probably cringe at the sight of it. Note to self: Rewire the whole bloody thing. Probably near a damn fire hazard, to be honest. The memory cable was quite easy; I'm not too sure if the fuse panel is on the drivers side or not, but basically I just undid all the panelling around it,unbolted the fusebox, found the open-door light fuse, took out the terminal holding it in there and wired it in. I was in a bit of a rush at the time though, so maybe one of the other guys could tell you whether its a good thing to do or not. It's been like that in mine for a good few months now with no problems.
Speedwagon
I know where to pull a wire from, my goal here is to make it as stock looking as possible for the wiring. So I don't have extra wires all over.
87glsubie
from all the stereos ive done. black= ground blue= remote accessory / light dimmer could be anything and yellow is usually the power wire. red is your memory i believe so all ur settings stay set
quartus
yellow wire and a red/green(I think) Any idea what these do? Yellow wire is "always on" 12v (for memory retention) and Red is ACC controlled power , i.e. ig switch must be turned on for 12v to be present. Are we talking about the same vehicle? Every thread I've read on here says there is no constant power on an EA81, at the stereo. And the yellow didn't have power on it either. The red is the ACC, not the red/green. The Red/green is the one in question.
GeneralDisorder
Correct - EA81's do not have a constant power source to the radio. Typically it's tapped from the ignition harness for most stereo installs though I like to use the clock power personally. GD

Do you know off hand which wire that is, and the best place to get to it? And I guess no one knows what this yellow wire is for then?
GeneralDisorder
There is a bullet connector under the dash area that was used to disconnect the clock power for shipping from japan. I tap into that. It's just a single wire that feeds the clock memory power. I can't remember the wire color but just take a look on the passenger side of the column and it should be there. I can't recall what the yellow wire does. I might have it in my FSM - I'll try to take a look today. GD
()__1337_CRAYOLA__()>
just take the wire cram it into one of the fuse spots then cram the fuse back in and your done constant 12v

Speedwagon
I found a good constant power... then I verified it was the clock circuit when I accidentally grounded it. It was a green connecter, driver's side under the dash, not connected to anything. Had a black and yellow wire in it, with the black(white stripe I think) being the constant. Someone had previously tapped it, though there was no wire on it when I got the car. So all is good now, but I'm still curious as to what the other wires in the brown connector for the stereo are.
