Remote start for 96 outback MT?

Recommended Posts

I don't have any specific recommendations on a remote start, but I will say that you will probably find shops hesitant to install a remote start on a MT vehicle.

If you were to get one installed it would need to be tied into the neutral switch, and be setup to defeat the clutch interlock system. Not saying it can't be done, but it's one of those things that some shops get a little leary about since there's some possible liability if something is tampered with and the car started in gear.

Just some food for thought.

my sister had one installed on her 5spd mazda protege. she had to sign a waiver of liabilty with the shop that installed it.. she also had to do a number of things in a sequence before shutting the car off in order to for the remote start to work the next morning.

i had a friend that put one in a standard firebird on his own, his kid started playing with his keys one day, and the car started up and drove thru his garage... so i can def see the liability issues for them. damn kids lol

yes...I had one recently put in my 96 automatic and spoke to the guy about a manual install. It seemed pretty routine for him and he explained the sequence of what you have to do before getting out of the car. I'm going to have it done as a surprise gift for my neice in a few weeks--she has a manual impreza
