logic23
OK I have a 2.2 engine that I'm resealing, replacing pulleys timing belt and water pump. It is out of a 97 impreza outback. So my question is does any one no for sure that a California emissions 2.2 has the same belt as federal emissions. I called the dealer and gave them the vin and they said it took belt 13028AA102. This belt is the federal emissions belt. When I took the engine apart it had a 13028AA150 which subaru says is CA emissions. I checked all the sources and from what I can tell they are the same belt with 211 teeth same width, etc. ANY THOUGHTS? I'm also tapping the head for the EGR I can post pics if anyone wants. johnceggleston
the california belt lasts longer, use it. other wise they are the same. the last time i checked around at the local parts store, advance auto, the cal belt was a special order and cost less, the fed was in stock and was more expensive. replace all the pulleys/idlers and the water pump, use the cal belt, do all the seals and you will not have to open it up for 100k miles. you can get a kit on ebay, the import experts, for 190$ to do it all. ii'm not sure if the kit has the cal belt or not. but you can call them and tell them that's what you want. logic23
I see. The cal belt is no where close. Fed belt i have. I've been getting kits from a store on ebay (Mizumo Auto Parts) the kit is like $110. GMB pump, japanese pulleys and seals. I thought it was a good deal. Anyways thanks for the heads up... now i know.
GeneralDisorder
There's nothing wrong with the 60k belts. The CA belts are spec'd to last 105k but that's really too long for the tensioners, idlers, and water pump on the EJ22E's.... IMO. It's cutting it awful close to a lot of water pump and idler bearing failure's I've seen. GD

GD i agree 105k is quite long. does that mean you don't agree with the 105k interval for EJ25's since they use the same pulleys and water pump?
