blower makes whirring noise. 05 outback

Recommended Posts

One of the things I like least about -10 nights is what it seems to do to cars. The other super cold morning my blower was squeaking really high but not very loud then it changed to a whirring sound. I had hope it would thaw out but apparently there is something else wrong. Is the whirring sound something I could easily get fixed. I kind of fear any one taking the dash board off just to get to a small fan.

Thoughts?

2005..should be I believe 3 6mm bolts...There is a cover on the passenger side under the glove box..remove this black cover (3 clips) and the blower motor should be right behind it sort of under the glove box....unplug, remove bolts and remove blower motor...as mentioned wear a dust mask and be careful, believe it or not we have pulled dead snakes, mice you name it out of there...I would inspect and see if a leaf or something made its way in there or the cage is loose..if you notice nothing obvious perhaps the motor is beginning to take a crap...How many miles are on the vehicle anyways?

is this procedure roughly the same for a 1st gen legacy? Car has 247k on it so I'm sure the motor is dying but if its this easy to clean and check i will do that first.

Good question..My extensive knowledge of Subarus (not to sound arrogant) begins in 95 with the second gen. Legacy...I cant imagine it being that much more different though....
