Phizinza
What is involved with removing hydraulic lifters from an EA81 block?
backwoodsboy
The hydro lifters will flop right out when you take the heads off. ...careful, they like to all come out of one side at a time, good luck if youre trying to keep them in order. Phizinza
So the heads have to come off? They won't just fall out through the push rod passages?..
GeneralDisorder
If you loosen/remove the push-rods you can pull them out with a magnet (make sure it's a big, strong one). Getting them back in just about requires removing the oil pan though unless you are really lucky. Drop just one and it's off with the pan to fish it out. And no - you don't have to remove the heads. That's silly GD

I need to stop posting when Im half asleep. The NON-hydro blocks require head removal to get the lifters out.

GeneralDisorder
The NON-hydro blocks require head removal to get the lifters out. Actually - the non-hydro blocks require splitting the block to get the lifters out. The heads have nothing at all to do with the lifters - they are in the block next to the cam. Only the hydro blocks have a provision for removing them without splitting the case. GD
