Emissions thingy?

There is a canister looking thing in the left rear of the engine bay. It is hooked to the throttle and has some vacuum lines and wires coming to it. Is this the deceleration air controller? Does it need to stay? Mine is obviously not in working order so I was thinking of yanking it.

Thanks,

D

sounds to me like your charcoal canister. it is used to accumulate fuel vapors from the gas tank and allow the engine to burn them slowly. I don't know what will happen if removed.

Not if its hooked to the throttle cable its not. Charcoal canister would only be hooked to the carb through vacuum lines.

Well duh to me on many fronts.

I have an 84 Brat. Crusie control sounds likely. I will check the manual tonight and see if I can confirm. Didn't work anyway. Vehical is lighter now without it.

Sorry for the brian fart.

sounds like a dealer installed cruise control, it has wires going to a vac module and a cable to the throttle. it is standalone and is usually connected near the fuse panel

the haynes manual only covers oem types. what you ahve is not factory original. i would think that obtaining a schematic my be obscure.

Thanks for the responses. I think I will leave it out. No need for a schematic.

I would have posted pics in the first place but I am not allowed to post attachments and I don't use an on-line photo service.

what do I need to do to get around this?

Merry Christmas.
