EA82 TURBO DIE's FROM AN IDLE WHEN I TAKE OFF THE OIL CAP???

Recommended Posts

What the h___l ? I removed the oil fill cap (ea82 Turbo ) flapper m.a.f.

at an idle and it coughed and died,instantly..

I started it again and toyed with it predictably like a kill switch.

what could it be??????? anyone know. thnx.

I bet the PCV system is clogged up.

The vac system on these engines are supposed to be tight/closed, it will effect the idle when you open part of the system (oil cap).

but runs with the oil fill cap on?

The engine case is part of the intake system.

When you open the cap, you let tons of Un-metered air to enter the intake stream. Engine can't run like that. It's just like pulling one of the PCV tubes out of the intake boot.

Very normal. You don't want to add oil with the engine running anyway, it will spit it all back out at you.

What do you suggest? can you tell me were the pcv valve is? and is there anyother components to service??

p.s. ive been wanting to ask you for a year +, can you tell me were the boost sensor(switch?) is were it turns from pressure to wire....... works every 400th boost or so for a minute:confused:,.......Im sure its a corrosion issue... thnx bro

It's located on the passenger side strut tower in the engine compartment. It's the round thing on top facing towards the front of the car. Can't really miss it. Once you find it, you should be able to follow the wires. Mine does the same thing, so I just installed a vac/boost gauge to make sure it's producing boost and the correct amount of boost, but I am also going to replace mine with a used one, just so the light comes on. Hope that helps :)

Yeah, thats where the sensor is located, I believe theres also a vac line to it.

But mine is disconnected and I have a standard boost gauge now.

The PCV valve is located on the back-drivers side of the intake, you should see a hose connected to it. These can be cleaned, if they arent junked up to bad. But if you replace it, go OEM. Check the hoses for carbon build up also.

so the vacuum from the intake is not going to work.

No - of course not. You are sucking on a dead end. You need positive flow from one valve cover, through the crankcase, and out the other valve cover. You can't just suck on the crankcase - try sucking on a drinking straw while plugging the other end with your finger......
