HudsonJoe Posted January 5, 2010 Share Posted January 5, 2010 I'm replacing the front right wheel bearings on my '83 Brat GL (that's an EA81, right?), and when removing the old seals, it looks like the inner and outer are not the same. The outer looks to have a bigger (longer?) lip extending outward. But I can't seem to find a parts listing that shows them as different (have checked RockAuto and my local Autozone). Ah well, I keep telling myself I'm saving some cash and building my wrenching skills. Gonna try and get things buttoned up by this weekend (waiting on a loaded caliper pair I ordered from the local Autozone) and get my faithful rustbucket back on the road. - Joe Yes they are the same PN, and great job on the search!! GeneralDisorder Posted January 6, 2010 Share Posted January 6, 2010 The seals are the same - sometimes you will find that one of them is different. I suspect that when they were built they used two different seals - one with an extended lip and one without. You can cut the lip off the new seal if you really want to. Bearings are 6207's, but it's best if you go to a bearing house and get 6207-2RS-C3's as they are pre-greased and sealed. Better lifespan and more protection for the grease. Very often radial thrust ball bearings (6000 series) have the 6 dropped in the part number as they are the most common bearing type by far. Don't buy your bearings from an auto parts house. Go to a bearing supplier. You will get higher quality and a 6207-2RS-C3 will run about $12. You get a sealed bearing that you don't have to buy grease for or bother with packing too.
