pull the whole tranny?

Recommended Posts

Thanks for the feedback on the tranny.Glad to know Im not the only one.Ive tried all the "easy"fixes to no avail. So now Im thinking the shifter fork is discumbobulated or something to that effect.

Soon to my next question. Is there a way to drop the extension off the back of the tranny without dropping the whole thing?Or am I looking at a major progect that will cut into the rebuilding of my wifes sporster before spring?

Like before any insight will be much appreciated and gratefully returned when possible.

Thanx Again

A tranny swap is an easy thing to do. If you just go get a spare and do a straight swap then it should take up an afternoon at worse.

Short version:

Tap out the roll pins on the axle halves

Unbolt the driveshaft from the rear diff and pull it out.

Drop the tranny Xmember

Remove the two lower nuts and the two upper bolts

Remove the lower starter nut

Undo clutch and speedo cables

Undo linkage (2 small bolts)

Slide it back and off.

Perfect steps.

Tap out the roll pins on the axle halves

Unbolt the driveshaft from the rear diff and pull it out.

Drop the tranny Xmember

Remove the two lower nuts and the two upper bolts

Remove the lower starter nut

Undo clutch and speedo cables

Undo linkage (2 small bolts)

Slide it back and off.

The only thing to add is;

drain the fluid first.
