bcurley
Hi, I have a 1994 2.2L Non-Turbo AT FWD Legacy with 180k miles. I removed the IACV to clean and test it. I see the valve open and close on the engine side. On the hose tab, I see a tab sitting about a quarter into the opening. Was wondering if something should be moving on the hose side as well. Didn't think it should but thought I should ask before reinstalling it. Why did I remove it: Car would not start and after doing some tests just started running again but had a rough idle and threw a Code 24. Tried using seafoam through the hose to the IACV but that didn't help (seemed to make it worse) so thought I would pull and test it. Thanks, Bob
Legacy777
That tab on the hose side is tied into the coolant lines that go to it. It's a bimetallic strip that opens/closes as coolant temp warms up. It's supposed to help with the cold start warm up.

lewisd
just checking but did you get a new gasket for reinstalling? I did mine recently and the old one was out of shape and impossible to fit back into the grooves.
bcurley
I did. Mine doesn't have groves to go into though (the engine surface and IACV surface are flat).
