Hmmm....What year/model is the vehicle? I've seen this code thrown a few times for a bad front A/F sensor ( not saying thats the problem here)...do you currently have any drivability problems...rough idle? lack of power? etc....

Look for an air leak after the MAF sensor on the driver's side of the engine in the intake or exhaust area before the O2 sensor.

2004 2.5 LGT NON TURBO 78,000 MILES ( first 2.5's with the zero emissions only sold in Boston and cali areas)

 

 

no running problems idle ok power ok also .

 

could it be a o2 sensor going bad ??

so this is a U5 car...it prob. has the 3 piece intake manifold and the triangle shaped exhaust ports in the heads....hmmm...as mentioned check for intake/vacuum leaks also check for exhaust leaks..If you have the means I would also check the IAT/MAF/CTS sensors...all vital engine sensors that could throw numerous codes..

I got the p2098 on my 05 auto outback.

I suggest you check for an air leak in the exhaust on the bank 2 side.
