bratman18
The other day my ignition got stuck on my 89 EA82 GL, so I pulled the back side off and started it, that issue is all solved(broken off key stuck inside) When I was doing that, I slipped and touched the screw driver to the solder points on the backside of the ignition, now I have no power to the cigarette lighter, the radio (lights are on but won't play) and no windshield wipers, what could this be? I check all the fuses and none are blown. Thanks
naru
Likely blew a fusible link in the engine compartment.
bratman18
I did look at those as well, would they be visibly blown? They didn't look like it. But I'll check.

But I'll check. check them with a multimeter for continuity. if you shorted your acc terminal and melted a fusible you'd be looking for the ignition curcuit on FL-2, one of the red ones. TomRhere
Have you tried turning the key a bit more in either direction? The '85 BRAT will start and run, but most of the "key on" functions don't work sometimes. Move the key a bit and all is good. Your "oops" may have arc-burned part of the contact points away for that particular switch circuit.
bratman18
I'll check that out. Thanks for the help!!
Cougar
Use your voltmeter to check and see if voltage is getting to the ignition switch. If you have no voltage there then you need to find where the open connection is between the switch and the fusible link. Mkae sure the link is making solid connection to the contacts and there is no corrosion.

mountaingoatgruff
thanks for the follow-up, that's good info for anyone who uses a flat implement in the switch because their lock cylinder is siezed... i short those solder joints occasionally. TomRhere
Cool. Glad it was something easy and not a wiring issue. The BRAT had just done that the night before. Thought what the hey, and posted it. Thinking I need to get some lock-ease and spray it in the tumblers on mine. Just started doing it this winter, guess it don't like the cold.....
