90 loyale wagon - no spark

Recommended Posts

Well.........It'd be kinda useful to know how you came to that conclusion.

But if it isn't the belt. I would begin checking all fuses and fusible links.

Does the CEL illuminate when you turn the key on?

Are you getting power ot the coil?

Obviously check all fuses and fusible links.

Make sure the rotor in the distributor is spinning - timing belts can strip the teeth off and I've also seen pictures of broken cams, etc. To have spark the rotor must turn - verify it.

If that's working then check the ignition amp on the coil bracket - that could have failed.

ONE time when i used to own my 91 Loyale my car died just like that, no clicking, grinding, stuttering, thumping whatsoever. We latere went to trouble shoot and everything seemed fine, engine turned but would not even try to start (no spark)

We removed the Dist. cap, looked at the dist. rotor and what hapopened was that the small tiny screw that held the rotor onto the dist. shaft came off, so everything would spin freely except the dist. rotor.

+1 on the #5 fuse. I couldn't get spark once when I had been messing around with my stereo. I had inadvertently left the little green wire touching the ashtray...well that shorted out fuse 5 and I couldn't get spark (after replacing the coil and bracket and checknig the dist). All I did was tape up the wire, then replace the fuse and it was good to go...

check fuse #5 horn/clock/hazard as this is hot all the time and supplies the ecu

otherwise remove the outer timing belt covers and turn the crank with a 7/8 or 22mm socket, check the alignment per the timing belty procedure
