garner
Hey Turbo Maniacs, I recently aquired an IHI Turbo that was suposedly from a Subaru. Here are the vitals IHI Spec: VJ5 8510 Serial: RHB5 12297A Part #: FEH5A The searching I've done doesn't turn up any info on this model. Also, When checking for shaft play, The FSM shows checking the shaft play by laying the turbo down so the shaft is horizaontal and pulling up on both ends at the same time. I get no play in this test but if I pull up on just one side or the other, there is a bit of play. Is this normal? or not thanks
subaru_guy
http://www.ihi-turbo.com/turbo_RHE-RHF.htm Above page is very crude maps and turbo data, the B series has been replaced by the F series turbos. This will give you a general idea of application. http://www.dune-buggy.com/turbo/turbo.htm This page has some sourcing data from junk yards, along with some HP estimates for the diferent series of turbos. IHI data is hard to come by, and not very detailed from what I have found.
RallyKeith
I believe that is the turbo used on the early legacy and impreza turbos. Not really sure though. I start getting confused with the numbers a letters sometimes. Keith
garner
It seems very similar to the stock turbo on the 85 EA82T but with a slightly larger compressor. They are both RHB5's its just the spec # thats different. IHI is sort of worthless for info on their older turbos.
NSXR
This turbo comes from a 86-87 Mazda 626 2.0L Turbo. Serial RHB5 VJ5 The next year mazda used the RHB5 VJ11 which is actually the same turbo (Only minor aspect change. It equipped the 88-92 Mazda MX6 GT Turbo (2.2L 12V Inline4 Intercooler) 145 bhp and 190 Lbs ft of torque (Huge number for a stock car). A common upgrade to this turbo (VJ 11 or VJ 5) is to use the wheel and wheel housing from the 87-88 Ford Tunderbird Turbocoupe (2.3 I4 Turbo) The T-bird has a RHB5 VJ17 . The wheel is bigger allowing for more torque. Only the compressor wheel and the wheel housing are necessary. If you have any question nordine78@yahoo.fr If you want to sell the turbo I would be interested I own a 88 Mazda MX6 GT. NSXR
