pearlm30
When did Subaru change the white needles to red ones in the gauge cluster on the Sec Gen legacy L sedan? Thanks Edited February 4, 2010 by pearlm30
Legacy777
I had thought they changed it in 2000, which would be the 3rd generation.
bheinen74
the only red that "should" be on the guage cluster is warning lights, or a pegged portion (too hot, gas low, etc) I think the engineers did wrong when they made the needles red, now a warning will blend in more and less noticed. But....I am not an engineer.......so they will do what they do and I will complain about them like i do.

Gsir08
Dude I might have an answer for you, My 97 OBW has red needles, but it was a limited 2.5 Auto. My 96 OBW was 5 speed 2.2 and it had white needles.
pearlm30
The reason why I asked was I saw a subaru for sale ad on CL. It was listed as 97 Legacy L sedan with some pics showing white gauge needles. I know all the 97 to 99 outbacks have the red needles, My 96 outback and 95 legacy L have white needles. Still curious if 97 Legacy L sedan came with red or white needles???
