dwuollet
I searched the message board for info on setting up the throttle on the weber conversion but couldn't find what I needed. Here's what I did, I used the throttle cable bracket and linkage plate that came from Redline, I clipped the barrel off the end of the throtle cable leaving as much cable as possible and used a cable clamp for a bicycle derailler to clamp the cable to the plate it's clamped to the hole furthest from the bracket. works pretty well (I have some extra tension adjustment. The problem comes up when I push the throttle pedal to the floor, the secondary just barely opens, there isn't enough pull. Is this common? And most importantly how do fix it? I want to be able to use that secondary! I don't have everything on the car hooked up from my engine/trans mating drama so I haven't tried to start it yet, hopefully tomorrow. I'll be doing that instead of watching the Super Bowl and drinking beer. i'll probably have beer anyway.
GeneralDisorder
Here's how I always setup mine - if your's is an EA82 it could be slightly different but I do them very similar for both. That's the factory cable bracket - I just chuck it in a vise and bend it how I want it then mount it under the carb base nut. This is on a manual choke DGV-5A, but EV/AV are identical. Just in case you were wondering if it's the same carb since there's no choke housing. As for your specific problem - that is not common. They typically open plenty far if you use the Hitachi throttle wheel on the Weber's shaft. It works just like the stock carb for all the one's I've ever done. dwuollet
Thanks, I should have come here before I started cutting cable. back to the garage.
dwuollet
My carb is the same, manual choke, got that hooked up fine! I have a throttle cable from a SPFI will it be the same length? are they interchangeable? I'm at work right now or I'd just go look. If not i'll have to figure out how to use the hitachi linkage without the cable barrel and without shortening the cable any more. I see the reason that the hitachi linkage works is the curve, on the weber linkage the cable just runs straight to the plate. You get alot more pull when the cable goes around that curve. Hmmm. GeneralDisorder
I think the SPFI cable will work, yes (if it's an EA82 we are talking about - the pedal end is different on EA81's). The adjustment nut's and the end of the cable is a larger diameter but if you can work around that the barrel should fit the Hitachi wheel. Otherwise the cables aren't real expensive from the dealer - I think around $20 give or take. Obviously they don't stock them but they can usually have them in a few days. You could always tie a string to it and run it in the cabin for a temporary control. GD Edited February 6, 2010 by GeneralDisorder
TomRhere
Can't say that it'll actually work for you, but.... See if you can find a longer bolt and some flat washers/spacers to move the cable adjustment bracket further back from the carb. If you have enough pull on the cable after moving the bracket, you should be able to open the secondary of the carb. That's how I have mine setup, but it's not your standard Weber swap either. EA-81 engine, EA-82 carb manifold, Weber spun 180*, cable crank on carb flipped upside down. Throttle cable is now on DS side of engine. Only reason for doing it that way was I didn't like the interferance of the Webers choke and disty wires. Used the EA-82 intake as I had that setup already, and no EA-81 adapter for the Weber.
