my03suby
Hey guys..hoping you can help me out or at least give me some advice... I have an 03 WRX 2.0 5spd and am pretty sure I broke a tooth off 2nd gear. After shopping around for rebuilds and what not, I'm wondering if I should just go ahead and spend the extra cash to get a 6spd tranny for her. I plan on doing lots of mods in the future, trying to get her over 400hp...and from what I have heard, the tranny we have in it, is barely going to be able to hold 380hp once we get there. So, is it a safe bet to say we should shop around for a 6spd and do the swap now? Also, does anyone have a 6spd for sale or can you direct me to a place where I can get one for a sweet deal? WoodsWagon
Yup, abuse breaks the 5spds at stock power levels, so upgrading to a 6spd is a good plan. You will need more than the tranny to do the swap. My best advise would be to go over to forums.nasioc.com/forums and search for some threads on 6spd swaps. I've seen one "sweet" deal on a 6-speed in the last 4 years. Other than that, in the vendor subsection of the Northwest section of Nasioc.com, there are a couple companies that part out STIs. They usually want $5-6k for the tranny. That said, I'm way happier with my 6-speed than I could ever be with a 5-speed (without dual range, that is:)).
