Why do I have no up travel?

I tested my car on an RTI ramp yesterday and I went up 34" which translates to about a score of 350.One thing I noticed was that at normal ride height I have NO UP TRAVEL with either front strut. I have about 5 In of down travel but no up travel. So on the ramp my front tires didn't tuck, the rears did but the front's didn't move up at all.

I tested the suspension today with my floor jack.decent down travel but no up travel.

whats wrong with this picture?

also would it be possible to clock the torsion bar down and set the ride height where it sits now with the torsion bar not cranked up?

so right now Im running a 2" block on top of the front struts and the torsion bar cranked up in the rear.

You have a 2" lift on it thats why, your struts are pretty stationary since you have replaced the "travel" of your strut with 2" blocks, Weld your rearend and its fine, you'll still be able to go everywhere you want.

What he said.

You got too much spring in the front.

You could perhaps use 2wd EA82 front springs. they are softer. That's what I have on the front of my wagon. use the height adjusters to bring it back up, and the front will have more uptravel.

As for the rear, If you un-clock the rear torsion, you will lose ride height. Unless you also added some other type of spring (coilover) but then you will limit your rear uptravel.

If you get too much travel in the rear you will pull your axles apart or shatter the bells like gen 2's like to do, For what your car is, deal with what you got untill you build a 4" or 6" lifted wagon, then all of your car will be at the same level, and no 2" over stock....................

no swaybar. that was the first to go.why would the blocks limit travel?the strut is the same as before, just spaced 2" down..

Yeah but the arm it's connected to at the bottom is not spaced down. It's just as if you had cranked up the tension on the springs.

Oh,the lever effect.Ok.So I need softer springs.

Ok so I was planning on putting EA82 axles, hub and struts under there with hybrid EA/EA82 control arms.So I will end up pretty much swapping my front suspension over to EA82...sense the Ea82 is FWD, if I use the FWD springs that should help right? Are FWD vs 4wd EA82 front struts different?

edit: it would seem that 4wd struts have their spring perches welded up higher. So I will need to find some 4wd struts.Talk about a hybrid vehicle:

Ea81

EA82 axles

EA82 hubs

EA82 4wd struts with EA81 tophats and FWD Ea82 springs

EA81/EA82 lower control arm

EA82 outter tire rods/EA81 inners..

Just a thought:How much height will I loose if I run 2wd springs?

You are going way too far with this Idea, If you are going to do all of this, Go get a gen3 Wagon, once its all said and done you are going to have so many alterd parts you'll be confused what you need, This car you are trying to do it all to is not worth it, Trust me I've wheeled Gen 2's and all the problems you have had will still be a problem in the future, As for flexing and all that, you have to weld your rearend, then you will be able to go everywhere you want, This again is a thread going south. as long as you have the 2" lift on it it will be like this, if you get too much flex in the rear you will always break axles, Which I have said before,

here is some up travel for you, this car has all ea81 suspension.

this is my 84 wagon has aftermarket kyb struts and shocks, i'm running a 1" rubber spring spacer in the front and the rear torsion bar is cranked. i'm also running an lsd rear end and 215/70-14 blizzaks in this picture. and this thing wheels just fine and i have never had any problems getting any where with it. it has plenty of flex and this picture was taken during a camping trip in eastern oregon, it is fully loaded with gear and 2 teenagers.

no this will not do any rock crawling but it is very good in the mud, good in sand and really good for general trail use with some minor hardcore use but nothing wild since its my DD.

again as has been said before quit worrying about about what it doesn't do and just go wheel it and have fun. if you want more go and buy something different.
