FlyDive2
I have a power steering pump leak on my 98 OBW. Can this be repaired? Or should I look for a used pump/new pump? Appears to be leaking either on the bottom or back, need to take it off. Thanks, Jay
davebugs
They usually leak at t ametal gasket smack dab in the middle of the pump for me. Others here have had the Oring at the bottom of the reservoir leak. Last I checked the rebuild kit was like 20 bucks - same as a used pump. I install used. edrach
I rebuild the PS pump on my '97 Impreza a while back $35 for the kit from the dealer. Oddly enough it didn't include the bearing; probably because it's immersed in oil for all it's life.
Rooster2
A few years back, I replaced the pump on a 91 Leggie. Cost from a wrecking yard was $35. Replacement worked perfectly. It was easy to swap out.
unibrook
U could first try some Power Steering Stop Leak goop........if you need a quick fix to get you by for a while. I used that junk in my old Saab story for years. Never did end up bothering to replace the pump b4 I dumped the car.
davebugs
I love Lucas PS if it's a problem with the rack. I've tried it several times for pump troubles on Suby's with no luck. YMMV
89Ru
Reservior o-ring seems to be about 10x15x2mm, I have used 10x14x2 in a pinch. That o-ring doesn't come with the pump rebuild kit, just the ones that don't seem to leak.
89Ru
Correction to previous post: For the '97 OBW, PS reservoir O-ring is closer to 11x15x2mm, probably nitrile. Don't know the hardness (70, 90)? Get the right one from the dealer when replacing. Even if you get close with a metric kit o-ring it can still leak. Another key might be centering the reservior outlet in the pump inlet so the o-ring isn't crushed on one side.
