nickb21
I've been getting a pretty persistent p0420. Around the time the code came up I was experiencing what felt like a blocked cat - car wouldn't rev very high, was low on power, but then after a few moments of driving it felt like it would clear out. Hasn't happened in the past few months though. I've tried the spark plug anti-fouler trick and it sorta worked for a little bit (enough to pass inspection, lucky for me). I've read through a few threads on here, and it seems BOSAL is a decent aftermarket option. Before I go that route I'd like to try and find a cheap, used OE "mid-pipe" (not sure what it would be called) section with both cats and sensors. Any thoughts on what years would be compatible with my '02 OBW/2.5 SOHC (120k)? I looked at opposedforces.com and I'm thinking that at least any 00-04 legacy/ob, plus maybe 99-02/03 impreza/forester's with the sohc 2.5. I think the exhaust went through a pretty major change in '05. Thanks for the help!
charm
I heard Bosal was a good option too. Tired it. I suggest saving yourself a lot of time and money and just buying the Subaru part. It's an extra, what $400? Sounds like a lot but when you consider my case where I've put on 2 sets of aftermarket cats at a cost of around $1200, if I had put on the OE cats the first time, I would have saved $100 on cats, and an awful lot of time and energy. Actually, this is all an assumption. Having not tried the OE cats, they might fail for me too. I'm running the antifouler right now and I really like not having the CEL on. It's been off for several months now.
MilesFox
Bosal is a good brand as far as i am concerned, they are the only supplier at NAPA that can get me the metal exhaust gaskets for ea82's I would think that a lot of the newer exhaust parts witt fit together the same. I was able to replace a single piece y pipe on a 92 legacy with a 2 cat unit from a 95, and the midpipe/muffler. i think you have a good shot of everything fitting together, you have done your homework. the only differences across years should be single or dual port exhaust manifold
