Best offset for 4WD tires?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I'm looking for some decent sized mud tires to chuck on the wagon once I've done the swap and lifted it. But over here in little old NZ we have really stupid laws and warrants-of-fitness, which have a bunch of stupid rules, such as, the tire shall not stick out more than 25mm or 1" from the body or flare of the car they are on.

Now I reeaaaallly want to run some 27" tires, with a 6 stud wheel, but I need some that will stay around about 70mm or less from the body as I'm looking to run with 50mm rubber flares. Any idea what sort of offset would be best for this? It's a 1989 EA82 wagon, will have a 2" lift (unless I can figure out how to make a 4" lift :D )

Any more info needed feel free to ask :)

Early Isuzu trooper rims or the narrow offset Toyota hilux/4runner rims

Alot of mitsubishi rims have a good offset for subaru as well.

Just stay away from the deep dish toyota wheels and espescially Chevy wheels. They stick out way far.

We have the same 25mm (1") law here regarding wheels sticking out. It just isn't enforced much.

Also we have here a law that if your rear bumper is higher than 18", you must have mud/rock flaps for the rear tires. Again on;y enforced if they want to harrass you for something else.

I think both laws are about preventing flying rocks and rock chipped windshields.
