rverdoold
My impreza station is a bit hanging in the back, preferably i would like to stand a bit higher but not an outback sport conversion. Most likely new struts (10 years old now) will do a big difference already. What i have found now is that the struts for both impreza and legacy stations are the same (is this true?) Are there weight catagories with struts, i mean can you get less firm ones? I found bildstein (very very expensive) and monroe (117 euros a piece l/r)
Legacy777
I would recommend trying to see if you can get KYB struts. They are kind of an in between Monroe & Bilstein. The wagon struts tend to have a little more stiffer damping compared to the sedans due there being more weight. With that said, springs are what hold up the car. So if the rear is sagging a bit, struts may help, but springs ultimately hold up the car. Adjustable coil over setups would allow you to adjust the ride height and probably the damping. That's probably a more expensive setup, but it's an option.
rverdoold
When driving there is no excessive body roll or being pushed backwards. When cornering i have not the idea of loosing traction even when going fast. It just looks like it is hanging a bit on the rear. If the spring is broken i would for sure notice it during driving i assume. Will have a look at it. The problem with shocks and springs is that the wear is so gradual you wont notice it during driving. I think KYB is not a big brand in Europe at least not in Holland. I will get the struts myself and compress them with springs to put them on with a friend who is also making the underbody protection.
EVOthis
I'm not quite sure if they have Monroe's over there however If they do I would recommend them.. installed 4 new ones on my Legacy a while back and they have performed flawlessly so far....Very pleased... rverdoold
Monroe and koni are a bit the standard over here. Actually was thinking of getting monroes. Also figured out that the legacy has the same struts, do they also share the same springs? Or does the legacy has stiffer springs?
Legacy777
The Legacy wagons typically will have a little stiffer springs, especially in the rear due to the extra weight.
rverdoold
I found progressif replacement springs (apperently springs that change winding density on one side). I can choose only for 55% increased stiffness progressive spring. I found that the car is hanging after i filled up the propane tank (spare tyre place) this one is 52 liters and at 80% max filling it weights about 800 grams a liter it is a huge weight including the 27 kg of the tank. I never noticed it but I went to swiss and filled the gas tank as well because it was very cheap so there is 100 liters of fuel hanging on the rear. So the springs looked fine I just need stiffer springs!!!
rverdoold
This weekend I replaced the coil springs with stiffer and slightly longer ones specially made for the impreza. It was not that hard only figured out one strange thing; I was reading some from here and RS25 that the bolt and nut on the bottom side of the strut does the camber position of the wheel itself. I checked mine and both upper and lower bolt were identical and there were no markings on there or anything. I marked them and for the good order put them back as they came out. What I did find was the cap which goes on top of the spring had markings. Namely 4R, FF and 4L. I assumed since this is determining the camber since it was changing the angle of the whole spring strut combination. So for the right I used 4R and for the left the 4L (thinking that FF is front wheel drive). That is also how they came of the car. I made some pictures which I can post later for any interest. The ride hide changed from 16.5 cm to 20 cm (measured at the jackpoint in front of the rear wheels) I have no idea what it should be for an impreza but i guess is that 7.9 inch is quite high. idosubaru
over here the bottom cambered bolt is only on the front struts, no cambered bolts in the rear unless my memory is failing.
rverdoold
over here the bottom cambered bolt is only on the front struts, no cambered bolts in the rear unless my memory is failing. Since I was not sure about them I marked them and with lots of pain got them off. And later on again . For sure next time will replace struts by myself in a weekend. Labour prices are incredible over here.
