The Boomerang (Mountain Grizzly) Returns....

Recommended Posts

sounds like you are putting the subframe and rear wheel drive section/struts off the red BRAT into this wagon? that about right assumption. That be a lot easier that doing ladder link bars like you did on the red one :) or is this wagon going to keep neutered in the back, IE FWD only no rear diff.

since the torsion bar was broken, and I already had the coilovers from the Red Brat, I just wanted to use them, however, the shock bolts all snapped... so instead of messing with trying to drill out the shock mount bolts, I just made some custom brackets with captive nuts, and welded the new brackets into the wheel wells (1 side so far), so it now accepts the ea82 coilovers... teh rear diff is still okay, thought it appears it's leaked in the past....

the underside is solid, but lots of surface rust... unfortunately, I can't say the same for the rockers

got the other side welded in tonight, and started to take the frozen calipers off the front, and took off the old bumper... captive nuts were spinning on one side. tried rewelding one, but the bolt broke ended up snapping off. the other I couldn't get to but was already starting to pull through the thin sheet metal... so I finished the job.

making a daily driver with hood pins, hrmmmmm.

the front lip of the hood is bent, and the latch mechanism (in core support) was gone when I got it. my spare hoods are in storage at the moment, and I can always go back to stock if I replace the hood....

since the brakes were an issue with it, I'm putting new ones on all around. fresh calipers/new pads all around.

in-laws were down today, and we took down (2) 5-trunk maples in our fence line, cut 'em up to firewood sized chunks, and burned the smaller stuff...

plus I started putting together the kids basketball hoop... need to get 300 lbs of sand now :)

so no more progress now for a few days... :(

ugghhh. finished putting together the kids basketball hoop... so I thought I'd do a little work.

1. got the ignition switch wired and installed

2. tightened up the steering column where the old IGN switch was... couple of the bolts were way loose. one was like a half inch out!

3. trying to test out headlights, and discovered some fun stuff...

there used to be custom wiring in place for the headlights, horn, and turn signals, but it all had been ripped out, so none of that stuff works...

4. got some louvers today, and will take a bit of modifying to work, but should come together nicely....

still need to remove the front calipers (one is frozen shut) and put on the 4" lift blocks.....

"Its going to be great when its finished!"

:)

nah, it'll be driveable.....

no idea why the PO ripped out the wiring....

tonight:

got turn signals working

headlights set-up to work. just need old fashion pull switch to turn them on, and the dimmer switch still works. ended up going back to the stock headlight harness...

got horn working

hazards flasher is missing...

took off the bad calipers

took off the cruise stalk and switches. the engine bay cruise stuff is long gone anyway....

changed out weak horn.

wired up centerlamp, using aftermarket relay! will post pics later.

wired up relay and switch for front fog lights.

buttoned up most of the electrical issues...

4" lift kit parts installed. nothing else though. Kid and I had baseball from 5:00-7:30 tonight....

as a side note, the keyed power switch I put on my Red Brat was crap! really touchy, and I believe it drained down my battery... I was able to get it charged, but I'm adding a master cut-off switch to it, just in case.... plus hooking up the stuff a bit different....

Wow, i cant wait to see pics. You would think this came from a lady who messed things up or something.

No, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the PO. I believe it was the PPO

It came with a new set of 4" SJR strut tops, but they didn't line up with the strut mount bolts very well... the old 4" strut blocks from my Ozified kit were closer, so I filed out the holes a little to get it to fit, and got everything installed... I picked up some new bolts for engine crossmember 4" blocks, since I had them set-up with a 5" lift in the red brat previously...

The steering linkage was interesting since it had power steering, but it went on fine...

The pitch stopper bracket from the Red Brat 4" lift was only 3", but was curved, so it worked perfect with the stock pitch rod...

I should be able to start work on the brakes this evening... new (rebuilt) loaded calipers for the front, and need to check out the rear brakes to see if they are okay or not...

and I may need the extend the front brake lines... I didn't have to do that on the Red Brat.... I was hoping it was an "1982" thing...

I want to fix the sloppy shifter while I have it up in the air too...

All this talk but no pictures.... WHY MICK! WHY DO YOU TAUNT ME...!!

:)

most of the work I'm doing is in a not so brightly lit garage, at 2:00 AM, and pics inside don't work well, even with the flash so it'll have to wait until I can actually drive it out onto my driveway... it WLL be ready shortly, because I have to have the garage cleaned out for city-wide garage sale day in May :)

oooooooo you sellin anything good.

all kinds of good stuff :)

last night, I actually found the rock guards I mentioned before. it was only 1 set, and they were not the right size for your vehicle... that's why I didn't use them...

I've got a couple tool box type things, and some tools too. just common stuff though...

not much automotive wise, but we've got a prety goodpile of things going in the basement now, plus I still have some stuff in our storage unit to get...
