redob
Hi there! Just wanted to ask you folks if the OEM anti-nock sensor is any better or different from one purchased at NAPA or Advance Auto Parts. Would be for a 99 Legacy Outback. Thanks!
idosubaru
There's no definitive answer to this question. Some folks will swear this needs to be an OEM Subaru part, others say they got brand XYZ with no problems. The answers will depend on who decides to reply. You get what you pay for applies but there's still a gray area and comes down to how you view risk, money, time, etc. Have you checked the online Subaru vendors - the aftermarkets may not be much cheaper, if at all, then those. Local dealers will often match those online prices (mine does). Follow the installation directions carefully and clean up the block/bolt. davebugs
There was actually a thread about this in the last year. Don't think it ever came to a real conclusion. Which probably means that aftermarket is o.k. Often I have agood used one - but am starting run a bit low. I use OEM myself when I need a new one. Not enough of a price difference to gamble for me. Fairtax4me
It shouldn't matter for a knock sensor. You could use one from a Ford or a Volkswagon it still works the same way.

Nothing good ever comes of getting German and Japanese parts together.
