Rooinater
Well i've been looking at converting to a larger amp for awhile. was gonna go to an XT6 alt a year or so ago... but still not enough amps for me. then into the older GM or the Newer GM alternator. but having trouble finding all the proper gm diagrams to match wires and resistors. but since i don't trust any of my charging system as it sits. i don't want to just patch in a new alt. beings the fact the volts are always low and jumpy. mainly do to a bad voltage regulator. i've decided on doing the one wire 100amp gm style alternator conversion. one wire from power to the alt. then grounds on the engine. less stuff to screw up and make it a lot simpler. guess i'll start this hopefully next month. if i can get the cash. the actual mount mods i think will be the hardest to do. bot no sweat. then i'll do an update and keep you informed on the upgrade. wether it flops or goes good! any suggestions? or design help of people that have done a gm alt conversion is greatly appreciated. ThreeEyedBandit
Here is the alternator that I am using, but my mounting system is alot more different and simpler. When I get around to it I will get pics up. They are also using a different style of alternator bracket then I am using. http://usmb.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8470 Matt
Rooinater
yeha i'm going to have to use a differant style bracket than that too. just cause i don't have the a/c bracket anymore.so i think i'll be cutting and welding the steel mounting brackets. in order for it to work. ThreeEyedBandit
What I did was just mount the alternator in upside down, so the single little ear is on the drivers side of the engine and when the other side is on the top of the mount the belt tension should be right. If just move the one bolt higher, if this makes no sence I will get pictures tomorrow. Matt
75skunkaroo
i finally looked at matts mounting on his alt, then looked at the other pics again, and there is an amazing amount of simplicity with the flipped over system as to the making brackets approach
