Reseal 2006 Legacy 2.5 Oil Pan?

Recommended Posts

Re 2006 Legacy Outback 2.5L non Turbo

Hello, I'm helping a freind out. I can't seem to find a DIY thread. Does the pan just drop out or do I need to lift the motor to pull the pan?

Based on what I've read here the job may be a pita?

Thanks, Rob

for the pan to come off, its lots easier to jack up the engine after removing the lower mount nuts of the crossmember, and loosen the dog bone. Just the extra 3 or 4 inches is what it takes to get to the rear pan bolts and to drop it enough to clear the oil pickup system tube.

remember to drain your oil first

do you have your permatex ultra grey?

how much cleaning and wiping did you do to make sure the pan is where the leak is? this is not normal. valve cover leaks at the grommets, and the valve cover gasket are the norm.

+1 on what he said, lots of thing leak on subaru engines but usually not the oil pan gasket.

I just got back from my freinds place...leak check.

It was just a leaky external trans filter cartrige gasket. Not engine oil related after all. New filter solved the problem. Thanks again!

i think this maybe the first time i've heard that one. good to know, look out for.
