Jibs
So I've got this crazy idea. The engine in my scout is on its last legs. I found a 345 v-8 for sale here in reno for 100$. It needs to be rebuilt and I'll be damned if I am going to stick with a carb on the thing. The problem is that the injection kit is like 1500$ for it. On top of the rebuild and the cost of the engine I'm lookin at roughly 2k. Soooo.... I was thinkin, why not throw in a 3.3l eg33 mated to a d/r 5speed into a samurai t-case. I think it would almost come out to close to the same, the hardest part would be having the custom motor/tranny mounts made. Everything else is just the same as the ej2ea swap. Right? My question is whether the 5 speed would be strong enough to push around 4500-5k lbs? And wheelin it? I'd be geared quite low and it would see more slow paced action, but what do you think? Feasable? Have at it. Thanks.
Numbchux
I think that would be pushing it. the ER27 is tough on the 5-speeds. As always, it would depend on how you were driving it....but I think that you'd have to be pretty gentle.
Jibs
Thats what I was thinking as well. Thanks. I probably wouldn't be gentle either.
GLCraig
You would be better off finding someone who can make you an adapter plate, to mate the EJ33 to your existing transmission.
vagen
The eg33 is the same bellhousing pattern as an ej. I know this because a friend has an ej wrx trans in his SVX with no adapter plate.

Craig is talking about an adapter to mount the EG to the scout trans. which is not a bad idea.

I think I'd be more worried about the sami t-case. you can really beef up the mounts for them into a good solid cradle.... then it might be okay.... that's still a lot of weight though...my Brat I think is still under 3500 lbs I think.... subiemech85
NO MANUAL TRANSMISSION AT THE TIME THE SVX WAS MADE WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO HOLD UP TO THE EG33! the 4EAT auto works well as long as it is taken care of
Jibs
So Im trying to figure out how much weight I can cut from the scout. The engine and tranny weigh around 800lbs:eek: and I could probably lose another 3-400lbs if I ditch the hard top, doors and tailgate. So maybe 3500lbs for the scout. I haven't looked at the scout trans at all to figure out if making an adapter would even work.
Numbchux
much better option: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=110400
RAugur33
Thats what I was thinking as well. Thanks. I probably wouldn't be gentle either. The SVX manual swap guys use WRX 5/6 speed transmissions. You probably already know this.

But this would be in the scout wheeler, and using the 5speed Dual range would give me a dual T-case. I COULD use a newer trans, but they don't come with a 4wd option. mcbrat
the 5 d/r just wouldn't like the jarring power put to it with each shift, if you were at speed. by adding a t-case behind it, you are moving the stress away from the trans. especially if you gear down the axles or t-case....
