MattyEss
I was hoping someone here could help me out. My mate reckons this will be a really simple little thing, but I'm not so sure. I've got a 98 Impreza thats been very well looked after. Still only 87,000km. I got it second hand about a year ago. When I first tried out the (factory standard) cruise control it was a bit odd. When I pushed the button on the panel, nothing lit up to tell you if it was engaged or not. No indication light on the dash, and the button itself which looks like it should light up, didn't. But once I clicked the steering column arm down it kicked in. I used it a couple of times after this just thinking it was odd, but possibly just a dead LED. Sometimes however I just couldn't get it to engage. Although I found sometimes if I gave the clutch a good push all the way down and then tried it would work. But I tried about a 3 months ago and no matter what I did I just couldn't get it to work. And its been that way since. (I'm not sure this is relevant but I did get some new and larger rims put on about 4-5 months back and don't think I've had cruise since around this time) I know how to service my car, but I've got no idea how to troubleshoot cruise control. MattyEss
Sorry, used the search engine before and couldn't find any relevant posts. After posting the 'related topics' popped up. I will try this penny trick, but with 10 cents instead
MattyEss
Can't find the clutch switch. Where exactly is it?
lmdew
There are two switches on the top of the clutch pedal assy, one for the cruise and one for the Starter interlock. Top one is for the starter Bottom one is for the cruise. They both should have little rubber stoppers/bumpers in the bracket. If they are missing, the switch plunger goes right through the hole so the switch does not activate. Yes, there is no Cruise indication on the dash. What you described is normal operation for your Subaru.
