claire007
I wont post the actual link since I am new here, but there is an kit for sale with the following below for $187 shipped. Does anyone think it is a good deal? The listing mentions that a hydraulic tensioner is not included. Do I need one for a '96 legacy outback with the 2.5? "1 Timing Belt (281 teeth) 1 Tensioner (bearing) 2 Upper Idler (bearing) 1 Lower Idler (sprocket with bearing) 1 GMB Water Pump This listing includes all the parts (i.e. front/cam seal(s),belt(s), roller tensioner, water pump, etc.) required for a complete timing belt/water pump change." eppoh
Depends on who the timing belt is made by, and if this is for a phase 1 (60k change interval) or Phase 2 (105k) change interval. Don't go with a no name chinese belt. Bando, Gates, Dayco, Subaru are ok. Ask the seller.
Olnick
Agree. Ask them what brand the belt and idler bearings are. Also I'd stick to Subaru OEM for the crank and cam seals. Good luck.

claire007
That seller you recommended looks like he has the best deal available, but it is for the 2.2 only. I am asking if he has the same one as here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1990-1996-Subaru-Legacy-Impreza-Master-Timing-Belt-Kit_W0QQitemZ390176235967QQ but in a 2.5. Thanks for all the advice! Thanks for all the advice! they have a retail store and reportedly the prices are the same as the ebay store. if you do not see the kit you need, call them. they have the parts you want and the belts, and idlers are of good quality and have been tested / used by others on this board. they did list a legacy 2.5 96, i think. this would be the outback, GT and LSi engines. on a side note, the 96 outback uses the same parts, idlers, water pump, crank seal, oil pump o-ring, and the cam seals(4 instead of 2), as the 96 2.2 except for the belt, the belt is longer. davebugs
I get 2.5 kits from them frequently. I get Dayco belts locally for about hte same price. I think they are the best value in kits.

I think I phrased that wrong, I meant, I am going to ask them if they have that kit in the 2.5, not "I am asking" as if I expected someone to get the answer for me, whoops. Called in this morning and got a gentleman whose accent I could not comprehend at all, so I am sending a parts request form email.
