Help ! ACC staying on ?

ok so i go out to my garage this morning, fairly sure that i watched my radio and everything turn off last night when i parked it.

anyway, i go out to my garage and the radio is on fairly loud and the clock and the cigar output.

i pulled down the four relays under the dash and all of them are clicking when they are suppose to.

tried changing them out just for the heck of it and it made no differance.

the ignition works on "ON" and "START" but "OFF" and "ACC" do the same, ACC does not turn off and my radio and clock are always on.

 

there has to be a relay somewhere for the ACC function,

does anybody know where to find it ?

 

sorry if this is easily found but the search function does not allow me to search for "ACC" or any 3 letter word.

There is no relay for the accesories - they run of the ignition switch power directly. Check your ignition switch - I suspect it's bad. Try unplugging it under the dash - all that stuff should go off.

Forgot to mention, i already tried that,

unplugged from underneath, ignition switch went dead but radio, clock and cig output still on :-\

I looked in both my Haynes manual that cover's EA82's as well as my EA81 FSM's (EA81's should be similar to EA82's with respect to radio wireing, etc) and neither indicates any kind of relay for the ACC circuits that power the radio, lighter, or clock. The power flows from battery +, fusible link, ignition switch, fuse panel and then on to the accesory. There are about 5 fuses that are powered in this way directly off the ignition switch with no relay's involved.

Does it have an aftermarket stereo? Maybe some of that stuff got rewired - it's all in the same area of the dash.....

 

I don't remember there being any relay's to power that stuff but I'll check my books and see.

it does, but i put it in and i am very confident in my wiring,

although i have already double checked it.

 

No relays for radio. Check the connectors in the pink plugs. They tend to melt as they get old. Two of the connectors could be contacting in the plug itself.

 

where are these connectors you are referring to ?

He's refering to the ignition switch connector itself - it's pink on EA81's and black on EA82's. As the wireing gets old and connections build corrosion and resistance the wireing heats up in that area and tends to melt the whole plug - sometimes resulting in the terminals in the plugs touching on the body side of the harness - that could cause the ignition switch to be bypassed. Check the body side of the switch plug for melting.

ok, so i went down and checked all the plugs and ign switch wiring and it looks like new (car has only done 64.000miles since 1987)

Another thought...

 

any windshield leaks or any water leaks for that matter? I realize you said that you park in a garage. Has it been raining at all in your area? Corrosion near the fusibles... bare wires under the dash... there could be several reasons for this.

there is a small rust hole in the trunk, otherwise no water leaks that i know of and the front floor is always dry.
