I read and read and read... All I can find is that you can you either use the EJ fuel pump or aftermarket one. My EJ pump works just fine. Now the question. Do I put the EJ pump in the EA81 tank? I seen someone put a pump where the rear fuel filter was mounted. If I put the pump in the fuel filter spot, do I still leave in the stock pump in the tank? If I use both pumps, I shouldn't need to worry about a surge tank either right?

did you really read anything? the write-up that I spent months compiling clearly says: "You'll need a fuel pump from a Fuel Injected EA car (if yours isn't already), to supply the necessary fuel pressure."

EA pumps are in-line, not in-tank. EJ ones are in-tank, and not designed to work the other way around, so they don't have a way to attach a line to them.

an SPFI EA82 pump is plenty of pressure/volume for an N/A EJ22.

Ok, i'm sorry. I must have been reading to far into your right up. I guess my eyes seen what wasn't really there. As for the mounting, I could put the pump where the rear fuel filter is correct? Would you still recomend a surge tank after the pump?

so to answer both questions

1 use an in line pump from any efi ea82 series subaru i mounted mine on the stock plate and in the stock ea81 location

2 as far as surge tanks if you can find a turbo ea81 fuel cell (baffled) than no but at the same time ninja ben has an un baffeled tank in a 81 hatch and thers is no surge problem

but i have heard of lots of others that have problems below 1/4 tank

I was lucky my brat was a turbo in a past life

I believe his brat is early enough he may have the under hood fuel pump. In that case, mounting the FI pump there won't work well. It will be empty on start alot and run dry until the gas gets sucked up.

On EA81's with the engine bay mounted pumps, this is what I did. Install an EJ fuel filter (or F.I. EA) in the engine bay where the stock pump is. then, at the rear, on drivers side, you will find a filter in the line, mounted to a bracket. Install the F.I. EA pump at this bracket.

You;ll need a barbed adapter to go from the small EA hose to the larger inlet on the EA pump.

The last 81 (model year) that I did we have had no problems needing a surge tank. Perhaps in a Auto-X situation where you really tossed it around, but we haven't had trouble yet.

Well I went to the junk yard and picked up a fuel pump from a loyale. Already mounted it in the slock location. Picked up some high and low pressure fuel lines and a filter. Just have to hit the store to find some adaptors. Thanks for all the help. I know it can seem redundant at times. But anything helps.
