SUBARU110176
Hello, I currently have a 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback(ej25)2.5 automatic that has a head gasket on it's way out. I found a 1997 Subaru Legacy(ej22)2.2 motor that came out of a standard tranny, I am just wondering if anyone has tried this swap and what problems I may occur while doing this. Also can I use my computer with the ej22???? And are the wiring harness are plug n play? I NEED ADVICE
Don_Quixpunch
Silly question, but why not just replace the head gaskets in the 2.5. I've done it and I'm no rocket scientist. If the 2.2 isn't plug and play, you'll quickly spend a lot more money making it work than you would have spent replacing the HGs.
MilesFox
should be a direct plug in. worst comes to worst you might have to switch intake manifolds. i swapped a 2.5 out for a 2.2 on a 97 outback, and the only thing that was different was the ac compressor, all i had to do was switch over the bracket. keep the old 2.5 and do the head gaskets, this way you have a spare motor, or something you can sell for a premium to someone who needs an engine
