beemer11
I have a 96 OBW with the notorious steering clunk. Other than getting the correct part, is there any aspect of replacing the U-joints I should be aware of, such as phasing them properly, etc? It looks like a fairly straight forward job. Can the U-joints be lubed or are they a lifetime install and forget until they make noise again item? Thanks for any info. Mike
beemer11
Been doing some checking online and the part (#34160AC090) is listing for over $300. That seems absolutely ludicrous! That can't be what people are paying for 2 little U-joints. Is there any other solution out there? Mike
Fairtax4me
Absolutely. 1stsubaruparts.com $99 Or you get 4 or 5 from the junkyard for $20. Your part number is the wrong one. You want this one as far as I can tell. 34160AC030 Can't post a direct link to the $99 which says for outback, but select your year and model and keyword search "coupling". lol I gave you the wrong PN, but fixed it. :-P Edited April 11, 2010 by Fairtax4me

frag
Did you try thightening the bolts that hold them to the steering column and the rack? I had play in the steering and that was it. No clunk though. Just in case it's that simple. Good luck!
