bheinen74 Posted April 13, 2010 Share Posted April 13, 2010 (edited) Handling department: easy = 1. best money is spent on new KYB GR2 shocks at all 4 corners, I say that brand because that is what works, others have found out the hard way and whenever they put on GR2's they are quite happy (do not get ricey coilover crap), 2. some name brand tires (think Michelin, BfGoodrich, Pirelli as 3 choices off the top of my brain now), and 3. make sure you have a good alignment. All those things have probably not been done on a nice used impreza, so start the savings account and make a list. doing all this will set you back about 1grand or more. It is the start. idosubaru Posted April 13, 2010 Share Posted April 13, 2010 make it whatever you want that doesn't set you back financially. maxing out your finances is not a healthy way to live. the tighter feel of subaru's with good struts and beefier sway bars is a welcome one, so yeah it's worth it. those improvements are much more satisfying and noticeable than trying to make an NA subaru "fast" IMO. LOL, never had a "fast" N/A have ya Gary? I jest. But, it does not have to break the bank to have a fast, fun to drive N/A. It will not have STi power. It will however, be way more fun to drive with instant power. No lag to be seen! Built my 2.5 liter with 1000 grind cams, intake and exhaust. 165whp AGX's with take off WRX wagon springs for a slight lift and leveling to get rid of the GC sag. Handled great, ran with all the big boys in rally cross. I won class with it two yrs in a row. Some day when you visit us up here I will take ya for a ride. Aside from that, I'd rather spend a couple of kilobux on a good touring kayak or a fast dual-650 recumbent bike. I like cars, I have somewhat high expectations of mine, but they're not my passion. It's setup for a turbo eventually, but it moves pretty nicely already. It's amazing what doubling the HP will do for a light chassis. He hasn't kept track of the total cost of the build, but it was probably around $3000 to $4000 including the cost of the crapped out Brat that was nearly destined for the scrap yard . He asked if he should make the suspension better. To do so you have to spend money on it. To make the suspension better you would not stack stuff on the roof to do so.
